Cape Canaveral, Florida – A dramatic nighttime video filmed from Peacock Beach near Port Canaveral captured the moment Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket test ended in a powerful explosion on May 28, 2026.
The footage shows a dark coastal scene with sand and water in the foreground reflecting faint lights. On the horizon, a sudden intense orange glow erupts into a massive fireball that rapidly expands into the sky.
Thick plumes of dark smoke rise high above the horizon as bright light beams cut through the haze, while the fire continues to burn with striking intensity. The handheld camera shakes slightly as the filmer reacts to the unfolding scene.
The video matched the original post text, which stated, “Explosion at Cape Canaveral tonight. It sounded horrible like something exploded not like the regular booms we get”
The incident occurred during Blue Origin’s static fire test of the uncrewed New Glenn rocket at Launch Complex 36 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The 320-foot rocket, which was being prepared for a mission carrying Amazon Project Kuiper satellites, suffered a major anomaly that resulted in the explosion and extensive damage to the launch pad. No injuries were reported, and the satellites were not onboard at the time.
The event was part of the same incident captured in other recordings from Tampa, Orlando, and a nearby construction site, and it represents a significant setback for Jeff Bezos’ company and NASA’s Artemis program, which had planned to use New Glenn for future lunar missions and cargo transport.
