Spectacular Manhattanhenge Sunset Lights Up New York City Streets

New York City, New York – The spectacular Manhattanhenge phenomenon lit up the streets of New York City on the evening of May 28, 2026, in a dramatic video filmed by X user New York City Kopp.

The footage was captured from a Manhattan street looking directly west down a long avenue, likely in Midtown or downtown. The setting sun appeared perfectly aligned with the city’s street grid, glowing as a deep orange-red orb between towering skyscrapers on both sides of the avenue.

Golden sunlight flooded the buildings and streets as the sun slowly disappeared behind the urban skyline, creating a striking canyon of light across Manhattan.

The video was posted with the caption, “Tonight’s Manhattanhenge, New York City,” and quickly stood out as one of the strongest captures of the famous biannual event.

Manhattanhenge takes place twice each year, usually in late May and mid-July, when the sunset aligns exactly with Manhattan’s east-west streets. The phenomenon remains a favorite moment for photographers and residents across New York City.
