Long-Lasting 6.9 Earthquake Rattles Homes Across Northern Chile

Iquique, Chile – Video filmed by X user Aline Pacheco shows prolonged and intense shaking inside a home in Iquique, northern Chile, during the 6.9 magnitude earthquake on May 25, 2026.

The person filming captures furniture, hanging lights, walls, and objects swaying and rattling for an extended period as the strong tremors continue.

The camera shakes while recording the movement inside the home. The person filming said the earthquake lasted so long that she decided to start recording it.

The footage was posted shortly after the quake at 17:53 local time with the caption: β€œIt lasted so long that I started recording the tremor in Iquique.”

The video is one of the clearest interior recordings from Iquique during the earthquake.

The quake, centered about 20 kilometers northwest of Calama, was strongly felt across the Tarapaca region and northern Chile.

No major damage or casualties were reported in Iquique, although power outages occurred in some areas.
