Albay, Philippines – Initial fears that a meteor had struck the northern slopes of Mayon Volcano on the night of May 25, 2026, were later ruled out following further analysis.

An earlier observation from PHIVOLCS’ Ligñon Hill IP Camera appeared to show a meteor striking the volcano at 10:33 PM.

However, a later review of seismic data, infrasound recordings, and additional camera footage around the volcano indicated that the meteor disintegrated while still in the atmosphere and did not impact the slopes of Mayon.

The updated assessment contradicted the initial post suggesting a direct strike on the volcano.
