San Diego County, California – Official update footage released on May 20, 2026, shows the rapidly expanding Tusil Fire burning aggressively across southern San Diego County.
Dramatic aerial and ground scenes capture thick black smoke rising high into the sky as intense orange flames tear through heavy brush and vegetation.
Multiple air tankers and helicopters are seen dropping bright red fire retardant directly onto active fire lines while ground crews battle the blaze along the perimeter.
The wildfire is shown burning on both sides of the I-8 Freeway as flames continue spreading through the area.
According to the update, the Tusil Fire has grown to 1,000 acres and remains at 10% containment.
The update also urged residents to follow evacuation information issued by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office on X.
The wind-driven wildfire began earlier in the day near the I-8 corridor. Evacuations were ordered for nearby communities as firefighters continued facing difficult conditions caused by dry vegetation and gusty winds.
