Heavy Police Response Erupts After Deadly Mosque Shooting In San Diego

San Diego, United States – The video filmed from inside a moving vehicle on a sunny afternoon in Clairemont captured the immediate massive police response to an active shooter incident at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

The footage, recorded by X user TerpyTay, shows a long line of marked San Diego Police Department patrol cars and SUVs with flashing red-and-blue lights parked along a busy roadway near trees, construction barriers, and a dirt embankment.

Officers can be seen moving between the vehicles as traffic slowly passes the scene. At one point, a bright blue Chevrolet SUV appears in the foreground while the wider view reveals the scale of the law enforcement presence stretching down the street beneath clear blue skies.

The video was posted on May 18, 2026, with the caption: “Active shooter situation at a mosque in Clairemont. Looks real bad.”

According to San Diego police, the shooting happened around 11:43 a.m. outside the Islamic Center of San Diego, the largest mosque in the city, which also includes a school.

Authorities said two teenage suspects opened fire outside the center, killing three adult men, including a security guard. The suspects then fled a short distance before dying by suicide inside their vehicle.

Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. Officials confirmed that all children and staff members inside the mosque and school remained unharmed.

The shooting sent shockwaves through the Clairemont community and triggered widespread condemnation from local and national leaders.
