Hawaii, United States – A timelapse video captured at the summit of Kīlauea shows intense lava fountaining activity during episode 47 over May 14–15, 2026.
The footage was recorded by the KWcam, positioned on the north rim of Halemaʻumaʻu crater, documenting the eruptive sequence inside the summit crater.
The activity began at 3:27 p.m., when lava fountains burst from the north vent, feeding flows that gradually spread across the crater floor.
By 12:27 a.m. on May 15, lava stopped erupting from the north vent. However, molten lava continued oozing slowly across the crater floor into the early morning hours.
The flows persisted until sunrise, continuing their gradual movement across the crater floor even after the main fountaining phase had ended.
