Deputy Surrounded By Massive Termite Swarm During Night Shift In Louisiana Parish

St. Tammany Parish, La. – Termite season has begun on the Northshore, with large swarms of insects appearing during warm, humid nighttime conditions.

A video released by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office shows a deputy working a night shift around 9 p.m. as termites swarm around his patrol unit on Tuesday night, May 12.

The post included the message: “Deputy Justin Blackwell, night shift, and approximately 6 billion termites…”

The footage shows the insects covering and circling the deputy’s vehicle while he remains on duty during the nighttime shift.

Termites are known to swarm during spring and summer months, especially on warm, humid evenings and after rainfall.

Authorities also note prevention methods for homes, including removing moisture sources, reducing wood-to-soil contact, and creating chemical or physical barriers around foundations.
