Helicopters Drop Water On Miami-Dade Wildfire As 172 Fire Burns Across Southeast Area

Miami-Dade County, United States – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is continuing to assist the Florida Forest Service under a unified command structure as crews respond to the 172 Fire in Southeast Miami-Dade.

According to officials, the blaze has affected 300 acres and is currently 50% contained.

Helicopters from Air Rescue are supporting firefighting efforts from above, carrying out water drops, while ground crews remain on site working to protect nearby communities and reduce potential exposure risks. Authorities say there are no current threats to nearby structures.

Firefighters warn that changing weather conditions later in the day may bring shifting winds and rain, which could cause smoke to settle closer to the ground and reduce visibility in surrounding areas.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution, stay alert for changing road conditions, and be prepared for possible road closures as conditions evolve.

Officials also urge residents in affected areas to take precautions if smoke is present, noting that individuals with respiratory conditions, older adults, and children may be especially vulnerable. People are advised to stay indoors when possible and use air conditioning systems on recirculation mode.
