Woman Clings To Vancouver Bridge As Major Police Operation Shuts Down Traffic

Vancouver, Canada – A shaky handheld video filmed from a nearby high-rise shows a woman hanging from the outside of the Granville Street Bridge on the west side of the structure above False Creek.

The footage, recorded by X user retardedinvestor, captures the woman gripping the railing or scaffolding beneath the pedestrian walkway while a large black tarp or section of safety netting hangs nearby.

Police officers and emergency responders can be seen standing above her on the bridge sidewalk as several marked police vehicles block the roadway with emergency lights flashing. The camera slowly pans and tilts while the woman shifts slightly on the structure.

Posted today, the video shows the tense emergency response that forced the full closure of the Granville Street Bridge in both directions during Tuesday afternoon rush hour on May 12, 2026.

The closure caused severe traffic congestion across downtown Vancouver, while public transit routes were diverted and ferry services were suspended.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman remained outside the bridge structure for an extended period as officers worked to safely bring her back up. As of early Wednesday, the bridge remained closed and no public update had been released regarding her condition.

The Granville Street Bridge has a documented history of emergency incidents, leading to continuing discussions about the installation of permanent safety barriers.
