Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A 15-year-old student at Atlantic High School was taken into custody after posting online about planning to shoot up his school.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office acted on a tip through the Fortify FL program and confirmed the student is now in custody facing a felony.

“Once again, parents, talk to your kids before they make this mistake,” the sheriff’s office said. “I can’t solve every issue out there that might cause a 15-year-old to post what he posted. But I can guarantee we’re going to act quickly to protect the 99% of kids who just want to know they’re safe at school.”

Authorities emphasized the importance of vigilance and early intervention to ensure student safety across the county.
