Story City, Iowa – On November 8, Deputy Schroeder was patrolling on Highway 69 just south of Story City when he observed a vehicle being driven erratically. The vehicle crossed the center line and moved into oncoming traffic.
Deputy Schroeder activated his emergency lights and sirens and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. Moments later, a head on collision occurred, leaving three vehicles with heavy damage.
Despite the violent crash, no major injuries were reported. The Story County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that no one should ever drive while impaired, describing the incident as completely preventable and urging drivers to make responsible choices to keep roadways safe.
The driver was arrested and charged with OWI First Offense, driving on the wrong side of a two way highway, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
A criminal charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. Any person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
