Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona – A dramatic clash between two wild turkeys was caught on video as the birds battled for supremacy on the monument grounds.
The male turkeys engaged in a traditional fight known as neck wrestling. Using their beaks, they grappled and twisted at each other’s heads in a struggle that can sometimes last for days.
These fights are typically sparked by competition over a potential mate or to establish alpha status among the group.
With turkey activity currently at its peak, officials say these scenes are not uncommon at Chiricahua.
