Westlake, Ohio – A family of mallard ducks has been safely reunited, including the last hesitant duckling, thanks to the efforts of Westlake Police Department and Animal Control.
The ducklings, recently hatched at Peterson Pool, had been happily swimming around the lazy river. However, their mother had not updated her pool pass to include all the new babies, prompting officers to step in.
The police safely relocated the entire family to a more natural setting at Clague Park, where the mallards were seen paddling away happily.
“We can confirm that the WHOLE duck family was reunited! Even the last reluctant duckling. Thank you all for the concerns and for following our posts!!” the Westlake Police Department wrote.
The operation highlights the care and attention local authorities provide to wildlife in urban areas. Both police officers and the Animal Control Officer were praised for ensuring the young ducks’ safe transition to a suitable pond.
