Newport Beach, United States – Two giant sperm whales were seen just miles off the coast, appearing again off Orange County this morning through this afternoon and observed by all of the whale-watching boats in Newport Beach.
They were the same two whales spotted off the coast of Dana Point on Tuesday: Kiwi and Guava. The pair were first sighted only 3 miles from the Newport Beach harbor this morning.
The whales spent the day in over 1,300ft of water, feeding on squid. Passengers aboard the boats witnessed one of the ocean’s strangest whales — a once in a lifetime experience for many, since these animals can be elusive and make very long dives of over 90 minutes at a time.
