Handan, China – A three-and-a-half-year-old girl fell into a narrow well in Handan, Hebei province, triggering a tense and difficult rescue operation.
The narrow well opening made it impossible for adult rescuers to reach the child. As firefighters worked to widen the area using an excavator, a 13-year-old boy bravely volunteered to go down.
With full protective gear, the boy was lowered seven meters into the well to secure a safety rope around the girl. But the child was wedged in a painful split-legged position and could not cooperate due to intense discomfort.
Firefighters then broke open a 40-centimeter hole in the well wall. This allowed rescuers to finally reach the trapped girl and lift her to safety.
The successful rescue was a powerful combination of the boy’s courage and the firefighters’ strength. Together, they brought hope from the depths of danger.
