St. Louis, MO – Exactly one month after a deadly EF3 tornado hit the St. Louis region on May 16, 2025, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department released body camera footage.
The video, made public Monday, shows officers rushing to rescue residents trapped under rubble and aiding the injured amid chaos. The tornado killed five, injured dozens, and caused $1.6 billion in damage, per Mayor Cara Spencer.
Chief Robert Tracy spoke in a video with the footage. “On May 16, 2025, our community changed forever when a devastating tornado tore through our neighborhoods,” he said, noting losses of homes, businesses, and churches.
Tracy praised the community’s strength. “Today, we’re still here,” he said. “We’re not going anywhere. This isn’t just where we work. This is our home, too.”
The footage captures the bravery of officers and a community’s hope amid rebuilding efforts.
