Seville, Spain – A dramatic fireball streaked across the skies over the provinces of Seville, Malaga, and Granada today at 3:32 a.m. UTC (5:32 CEST), culminating in a spectacular fragmentation visible from multiple locations.
Observers reported the luminous trail beginning at an altitude of 104 kilometers above sea level, west of Pruna in Seville, and ending at 36 kilometers above the ground near Algarinejo, Granada.
The fireball’s final breakup occurred around 69 kilometers high, with visible ablation of fragments. Experts note that this does not suggest meteorites reached the ground, though a detailed dynamic model is being developed to confirm this.
The phenomenon was captured in videos from locations including Benamaurel, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and Arroyomolinos. In one video, the fireball can be seen crossing the constellations Cetus and Eridanus, its brightness slightly diminished by distance but still striking.
The event has drawn attention from astronomy enthusiasts and researchers, highlighting the rare and spectacular nature of such celestial displays.
