Severe Flooding Chaos Hits Andalusia as Rains Shut Motorways

Seville, Spain – The intense rains that have not stopped across much of Andalusia are causing severe flooding and river and watercourse overflows. The storm has closed the AP-4 motorway in both directions since yesterday afternoon between kilometer 13 and 78 in Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Jerez Norte (Cádiz) due to the overflow of a stream that flows into the Guadalquivir, making traffic impossible. Drivers are fuming as they’re stuck in endless queues, with no end in sight.

Given that the level is expected to take a while to drop, the DGT has decided to divert traffic from this road to the N-4. However, this road is not the only one closed to traffic, as around thirty lanes in Seville have been closed. It’s a nightmare for locals who can’t get around, with cars abandoned and roads turned into rivers.

However, this is not the only dangerous area due to flooding. There is also a risk of flooding in a large number of rivers in the province, and a special monitoring system has been established for the Guadalquivir River as it passes through Seville. Experts are on edge, watching the rising waters with bated breath.

Therefore, we remind you not to travel in private vehicles in areas with an orange AEMET warning level due to rain. Likewise, in areas with a yellow warning level, it is recommended that you avoid travel that is not strictly necessary and ask to check road conditions and weather forecasts before starting your trip. Authorities are begging people to stay home as the chaos unfolds.
