Hilliard, Ohio – The Hilliard Division of Police released body-camera video showing officers and other authorities trying to wrangle a loose cow on Interstate 270 on Monday evening.
The incident forced all lanes on I-270 South at Davidson Road to close for several hours while crews worked to catch the animal.
Bodycam video from just before 7 p.m. shows several officers and personnel attempting to corner the cow in a grassy area near a fence. One officer used a rope lasso and repeatedly tried to get it over the cow’s head, but each attempt failed as the animal bolted away.
At one point, the officer with the lasso came close to getting it in place, but the cow turned and ran in the opposite direction again. “Can you wrestle this thing to the ground?” the officer asked another man at the scene.
The chase continued until around 7:25 p.m., when a member of the mounted police unit used a grain bucket to keep the cow still long enough to secure a rope around its neck. Several first responders then helped lead the animal into a waiting trailer.
The cow was later identified as a Highland cow named Marigold. She had slipped out of a livestock trailer on her trip home to West Virginia after her owner picked her up from a farm in Raymond, Ohio.
