Raging Flames As Wildfire Forces Towns Into Lockdown In Spain

Paüls, Spain – A video shared by X user nosequé shows fierce flames tearing through the countryside as a massive wildfire burns across the Baix Ebre region.

The fire began Monday and has already scorched 3,100 hectares. Winds up to 90 km/h pushed the flames toward the Ports Natural Park, prompting confinement in nine towns, including Paüls, Xerta, and Prat de Comte.

Firefighters said they might not stabilize the fire until night. Mayor Enric Adell of Paüls reported a communications blackout, saying, “They can’t move because they lose communication.”

In Benifallet, shelters were opened for residents escaping smoke near their homes. Roquetes suspended festivals and urged “maximum precaution.”

Six roads are closed, including the C-12 and C-43. Smoke has reached Prat de Comte, and residents remain uneasy.

President Salvador Illa said, “The forecast is positive and optimistic,” but warned residents to follow emergency instructions.

The fire has affected forest, farmland, and parts of the Ports park. Officials confirmed the park has no fire prevention plan.
