Epsom, United Kingdom – Crowds gathered in the town centre of Epsom in Surrey after reports of a serious assault involving a woman in her 20s.
People filled streets in the High Street area, where brick buildings, shops including a Coral betting shop, traffic lights, and crosswalks lined the urban intersection under overcast skies.
A large group, mostly men in jackets, hoodies, and casual clothing, moved through roads and sidewalks as the gathering developed. Some recorded the scene on phones while police officers in high-visibility jackets were present throughout the area.
The protests followed reports that a woman in her 20s was attacked outside Epsom Methodist Church on Ashley Road in the early hours of April 11. She had reportedly been followed after leaving a nearby nightclub between 2am and 4am.
Surrey Police stated that several men were involved but said they did not have enough information at that stage to release suspect descriptions or CCTV. Residents gathered in large numbers calling for answers and transparency.
During the unrest, objects were thrown at officers, prompting the deployment of riot police and warnings of zero tolerance for disorder. Church leaders later described the protest as intimidating.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities say the woman reported being raped in the early hours of April 11, 2026, after leaving the Labyrinth nightclub, and that she was followed by several men. No suspects have been identified.
