Albany, New York – A video recently captured a porcupine climbing down from a tree, showcasing its unique skills. The footage highlights the animal’s ability to navigate tree trunks with ease.

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation shared details about porcupines. They explained that porcupines are semi-arboreal, meaning they spend much of their time in trees.

The underside of a porcupine’s tail has bristle-like hairs. These hairs help support the porcupine while it climbs and feeds among branches.

Though they are strong climbers, porcupines can fall from trees. This can be risky since their sharp quills cover their bodies.

Fortunately, porcupines heal quickly. Their quills even contain antibiotic properties, protecting them from infections if they accidentally stab themselves.
