Pomas Fire Rages Uncontrolled Near Entiat

Entiat, Washington – A fierce wildfire, named the Pomas Fire, is scorching the rugged Glacier Peak Wilderness, roughly 36 miles northwest of Entiat.

The blaze, detected on Friday, has swelled to over 900 acres by Thursday, with zero percent containment, according to recent reports.

Firefighters face grueling conditions, battling the fire in austere terrain where dead timber fuels the flames, remnants of the 2015 Wolverine Fire.

Smoke from the Pomas Fire drifts eastward, cloaking the Entiat and Lake Chelan Valleys in a thick, hazy veil, impacting air quality.

The Glacier Peak Wilderness in the Entiat Ranger District is now closed, along with Ice Lakes, Myrtle Lake, and several trails like Entiat River Trail.

Aviation support, including four scoopers and a helicopter, assists smokejumpers, but the fire’s remote location, inaccessible by road, complicates efforts.

The blaze has sparked spot fires across the Entiat River below Borealis Peak, pushing toward Pomas Creek, threatening more wilderness.

Dozens of trails remain shut as crews work tirelessly to contain the fire, with no immediate relief in sight for the affected region.
