Columbus, Ohio – A police cruiser crashed while racing to the scene of a shooting that left two officers injured in Mifflin Township.
Dashcam footage shows the cruiser swerving around traffic on Weber Road at around 5:50 p.m. on May 28. The officers were rushing to Mecca and Agler roads, where two Mifflin Township officers had just been shot during a traffic stop.
The officers can be heard preparing a medical kit as they speed toward the scene with sirens blaring. Video shows them veering into the westbound lane to pass traffic.
As they approached the Cleveland Avenue intersection, a blue Jeep turned left in front of them. The cruiser struck the Jeep, hit a utility pole, and came to rest on the sidewalk.
Both officers and the Jeep driver were unharmed. The Jeep driver was cited and released.
One of the injured Mifflin Township officers was released from the hospital the next day. The second officer underwent three surgeries and faces a long recovery, according to Police Chief David Briggs.
The suspect, Daveaonte Dixon, was later found in Obetz. He reportedly shot himself before being taken into custody. Dixon is now under police watch in the hospital.
He faces charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.
