Atlanta, USA – PETA supporters stormed the Shriners International Imperial Session today, disrupting the pageant for the new Imperial Potentate and the evening ball.
They demanded Brad Koehn ban animals from Shrine circuses. One protester grabbed the mic, chanting, “End the animal acts now!” before being removed.
PETA’s Tracy Reiman said, “The tormented elephants used in Shrine circuses don’t get a moment’s peace, and Shriners shouldn’t either as long as they exploit animals who are forced to perform under constant threat of pain and punishment.”
Shrine circuses still use wild animals, partnering with cruel groups like Carson & Barnes Circus, cited for over 100 federal violations.
Video evidence shows trainers shocking elephants with electric prods and bullhooks.
In the wild, elephants play, forage, and bathe. Circus elephants live shackled, suffering chronic pain from injuries like nail cracks and arthritis.
