Wall Township, NJ – Newly released bodycam footage shows police officers stepping in to rescue a small dog trapped in a storm drain.
Ptl. Jerry Baker, Ptl. Dan Grothues, Ptl. Josh Wheeler, and Lt. Eric Jennings responded after a resident reported that their dog, Sandy, had slipped out of her collar and fallen into the drain.
“When they arrived, they found Sandy scared and stuck below ground and her owner just as distraught. With no time to wait for the storm drain grate to be lifted by DPW, the officers quickly improvised,” the Wall Township Police Department said.
The entire rescue was captured on bodycam, with Sandy’s cries audible as the officers worked. Using a lockout tool, they hooked Sandy’s collar and carefully pulled her to safety.
“Thanks to their quick thinking and compassion, Sandy was safely reunited with her very grateful owner without injury,” the department added.
