Wawa, Canada – Officers with the OPP North East Region are working in dangerous conditions to keep roads safe, a warning underscored by a near-miss on Highway 17 near Wawa on Wednesday.

Video shared from the scene shows just how fast things can go wrong on an icy roadway. In the clip, a vehicle loses control, slides off the slick highway, and plunges into a ditch, narrowly missing an officer standing nearby.

Police stressed that drivers must adjust their behaviour in winter weather, urging motorists to “slow down, drive to conditions, and give emergency workers space.”
