Officer Calls Sheriff a Jerk After Speeding Stop in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, OK – A traffic stop on May 2nd between an Oklahoma City police officer and Canadian County Sheriff Chris West escalated when the officer called the sheriff a “jerk” following a speeding violation.

The incident began when the officer stopped Sheriff West for driving 58 mph in a 45 mph zone on Mustang Road. Upon recognizing the sheriff, the officer initially intended to issue a warning.

However, Sheriff West pushed for no documentation of the stop. When the officer suggested this might be related to an election year, the conversation grew more tense. The officer responded by suggesting, “You could just not speed.”

Sheriff West explained he was driving a county vehicle on duty but also mentioned “professional courtesy.” The officer, visibly frustrated by the encounter, retorted, “Well, just as ‘professional’ and ‘courtesy,’ you’re as big of a jerk as I heard you are.”

Despite the tension, Sheriff West chose not to escalate the situation further. He later told FOX 25 that the video “spoke for itself.” Sheriff West, who was elected in 2016, is a former Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer and has decades of law enforcement experience.
