Ohio, United States – A touching moment was captured on video as Lisa Schein listened to her late daughter’s heart beating inside 8-year-old Mireya Moody’s chest.

The meeting took place in the summer of 2024, at a park near Mireya’s home in Ohio. After Lisa listened to the heartbeat, Mireya gave her a long, warm hug. It was a special connection that brought comfort to both families.

Lisa’s daughter, Maddy Schein, passed away at 8 years old after an ATV accident. Her family chose to donate her organs, helping four people, including Mireya.

Mireya’s life changed in January 2022 when she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy. After months with a ventricular assist device helping her heart pump blood, Mireya received a donor heart in April 2022.

Since her transplant, Mireya has grown stronger with therapy and rehabilitation at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. Doctors say her joyful spirit lights up every visit.

One year after the surgery, Mireya’s mother, Bianca Robinson, connected with Lisa. As they shared stories about Mireya and Maddy, they found many similarities between the two girls.

At their first meeting, the Schein family gifted Mireya a plush avocado toy. Mireya named it “Maddy” and sleeps with it every night.
