Montgomery County, Ohio – A wild police chase ended in a dramatic crash Thursday evening after a man riding in the back of a fleeing truck threw piles of wood at pursuing officers.
Police attempted to stop a white GMC Sierra, but the driver, 46-year-old James Collins, refused to pull over.
Collins sped onto Interstate 75, driving south in the northbound lanes with multiple agencies in pursuit.
While the truck raced the wrong way, a man riding in the back began tossing large pieces of wood at police vehicles.
As the truck continued its flight, it slammed head-on into a 2009 Ford Taurus, then crashed into a 2014 Dodge Challenger.
The impact caused a 2010 Cadillac SRX to hit the Taurus and crash into a highway barrier.
Debris and tires from the collisions struck two other vehicles — a 2021 Toyota RAV4 and a 2014 Jeep Compass.
In the middle of the chaos, the man in the back of the truck was ejected and flew onto the roadway.
Collins and his three passengers — Candra Lakes, 37; Zaquan Farley, 40; and Thomas Downey, 49 — were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
All were later taken into custody.
