Loose Livestock Cause Chaos on IH-45

Conroe, Texas – A major accident on IH-45 near the Hardy Toll Road has brought traffic to a standstill in both northbound and southbound lanes. The crash, close to the Montgomery County line, involved loose cows and bulls roaming the freeway.

Authorities report that one cow was struck, and a vehicle overturned during the incident. Emergency units are working to contain the livestock, but the freeway remains stopped. Drivers are warned to expect significant delays in the area.

In an update, officials said the northbound lanes of IH-45 at the Hardy Toll Road have reopened. However, some cattle escaped beyond camera range and remain loose. Motorists are urged to proceed with caution.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Units, patrol teams, Motorists Assistance Program Units, and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene. They are actively searching for the runaway cows to ensure safety and restore normal traffic flow.
