Martin County, Florida – The Martin County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) teamed up for an unexpected mission. They successfully escorted a large leatherback turtle out to sea, away from danger.
Marine Deputy Buddy Sprott worked alongside an FWC officer to guide the turtle through the busy Jupiter Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The goal was to keep it safe from heavy boat traffic.
The leatherback turtle appeared to enjoy the journey. It even entertained nearby boaters and officers with a playful display as it moved toward open water.
Boaters along the route cheered and clapped as the turtle passed by. They showed their support for the efforts to protect this remarkable animal.
The mission marked another win for marine wildlife conservation. Deputy Sprott and the FWC were praised for their teamwork and dedication.
