Kayakers Rescued in Perilous Sea Drama

Broughty Ferry, Scotland – The volunteer crew at Broughty Ferry RNLI Lifeboat Station sprang into action on Sunday, May 18, following a distress call from HM Coastguard about two people struggling in an inflatable kayak.

At 5:40 p.m., the crew launched their inshore D class lifeboat, Oor Lifesaver, racing to the last known location of the stranded kayakers.

The lifeboat team found the casualties, who were unable to navigate their inflatable kayak amid challenging sea conditions.

The kayakers were safely brought aboard the lifeboat and returned to the station, where the crew provided care to warm them up and ensure their well-being.

Despite warm weather in Scotland, the rescued pair showed early signs of hypothermia, highlighting the dangers of cold water and wind chill even on sunny days.

A Broughty Ferry RNLI spokesperson said, “Conditions at sea were tough with offshore winds and cold temperatures. Always carry a way to call for help when heading to the water. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
