Ibiza, Spain – A video filmed by Ana Popss shows severe flooding after extreme rainfall turned roads and streets into fast-moving rivers.
The footage also captures water pouring through the roof of Ibiza Airport, flooding the terminal and causing major leaks in the security area leading to boarding gates.
Health centres and Can Misses Hospital were also impacted. A burst laboratory pipe disrupted hospital services, while the Es Viver health centre reported heavy leaks.
Public transport has been severely affected. All bus services to and from Ibiza town have been suspended, with the flooding making travel both difficult and dangerous.
The state meteorological agency AEMET issued a red weather warning, recording more than 180 millimetres of rain within twelve hours. The warning highlighted extraordinary danger and the risk of overflowing waterways.
The severe conditions were caused by the remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle combined with the effects of two other hurricanes, which together triggered the flooding across Ibiza.
