Barcelona, Spain – On April 28, X user Crypto Trader Simon shared a video showing hundreds of people waiting for trains at Barcelona Sants station. The trains were canceled due to a massive power outage affecting both Spain and Portugal.
Simon wrote: “Total power outage across Spain and Portugal. Currently waiting for a train and all trains suspended. Now they told everyone to leave. All trains are cancelled. No one here has a clue how long this will last.”
He also mentioned disruptions to mobile and internet services: “The internet also seems to be out for everyone I’m speaking with. My Portuguese phone is somehow working, but other English and Spanish here have disrupted or no service.”
The power outage left many services down, including the mobile network and data. Simon had to walk to a hospital to use Wi-Fi. He expressed his relief at being in the city and not stranded in the middle of nowhere on a train with no power.
“Power is still out for the vast majority of services,” Simon added. “The only thing that’s on are the emergency lights inside the station. The screens are off. Even the traffic lights are off.”
