Douglas, Massachusetts – Massachusetts Environmental Police have finally captured Goose, a huge 5-foot lizard that had been missing for nearly two weeks.
Authorities tracked Goose to Southwest Main Street in Douglas, where the lizard slipped into a hole beneath a tree as officers arrived.
“After several sneaky escape attempts and a lot of dirt, two strategic pieces of chicken were placed near the hole as bait,” police wrote on social media. “Goose couldn’t resist.”
The video shows rescuers using catch poles to secure the strong reptile.
“After a short but mighty tug-of-war with a very strong lizard, Goose was safely secured and placed into a container,” officials said.
Goose escaped from a Webster home through a second-story window on July 18. The lizard was later seen near Little Pond in Thompson, Connecticut, about five miles from Webster, before being spotted back in Douglas.
Now cared for by Rainforest Reptile Shows’ Oasis Foundation, a nonprofit specializing in reptiles, Goose will have a permanent new home.
The foundation also helped with the search and capture of the illegal pet.
