Roatan, Honduras – Video footage captures the frantic efforts of emergency teams rescuing survivors from the water after a plane crashed into the sea off the island of Roatan in the Honduran Caribbean. The death toll from the horrific incident has now risen to twelve, according to shocking updates. The plane, owned by Líneas Aéreas Nacionales de Honduras Sociedad Anónima (LANHSA), plunged into the waves, leaving devastation in its wake.
The Fire Department’s social media posts reveal there are five survivors and one person still missing. Initially, LANHSA and the Civil Aeronautics Directorate claimed 17 people were on board, but this was later corrected to 18. Among the deceased is singer-songwriter Aurelio Martínez Suazo, a Garifuna star and naturalized American who once served in Honduras’ Parliament for the Liberal Party. His loss has stunned fans and locals alike.
Meanwhile, French citizen Helen Odile Guibar, one of the survivors, was rushed to a hospital in San Pedro Sula, Honduras’ second-largest city. The identity of the missing passenger remains a mystery as rescue efforts continue. The wreckage lies submerged 50 meters deep off Roatan, a top tourist spot, despite brutal weather and poor visibility hampering operations.
Brave emergency crews have managed to recover some bodies from inside the fuselage. The tragedy has cast a dark shadow over the idyllic Caribbean island, with the death toll climbing as the desperate search presses on.
