East Providence, Rhode Island – On August 8, 2025, at approximately 5:28 AM, the East Providence Police Department responded to a serious collision at the intersection of Mink Road and Wampanoag Trail.
The crash involved a Nissan Altima and a Mega Disposal trash truck. Preliminary findings indicate the trash truck was stopped at a traffic signal when it was struck from behind by the Altima traveling at high speed. The trash truck’s rear-facing camera captured the impact.
Both occupants of the Altima sustained serious injuries and were transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The driver, Ziondre Ogiba, 21, of Providence, and the 20-year-old female passenger remain in critical condition. Occupants of the trash truck suffered minor injuries.
Ogiba faces charges of reckless driving along with multiple citations. The East Providence Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues its investigation to determine if additional charges will be filed.
Authorities emphasized that speeding, distracted driving, and other motor vehicle violations will continue to be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
