Helicopters Battle Fierce Wildfire In Canakkale As Dardanelles Strait Closes

Canakkale, Turkey – Helicopters were deployed to fight a raging wildfire, with one seen drawing water from the Dardanelles Strait amid thick, billowing smoke.

The fire’s proximity forced the temporary closure of the strait to shipping, underscoring the blaze’s significant impact on the region.

This wildfire is part of a severe fire season in Turkey, with hundreds of incidents prompting evacuations. The Turkish General Directorate of Forestry is managing the situation with both ground and aerial resources, using advanced technology and extensive experience.

The scene reflects global aerial firefighting methods that have evolved since the 1940s, now incorporating helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to deliver water and retardants.

The Turkish General Directorate of Forestry stated: “Just as we are not alone in the fight against the flames, we are not alone in the fight against disinformation. We thank all our citizens who stand by the truth, strengthen us with their prayers, and give us courage with their support.”
