Truckee, California – California Highway Patrol reports heavy traffic and snowfall over Donner Summit, causing intermittent closures of eastbound and westbound lanes on Interstate 80 throughout the night.
Multiple spin-outs and traffic collisions have forced CHP to hold traffic on and off, with tow trucks working to reach dozens of stranded motorists in extremely difficult conditions.
Authorities urge drivers to remain patient, plan for delays, and prepare for winter driving. “We all need to do our part.. slow down and drive safely so we can keep the freeway open. Our priority is your safety and getting you to your destination safely this holiday,” CHP stated.
Heavy holiday traffic was expected, compounding the challenges posed by the winter storm and icy roads. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time.
