Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India – A severe flash flood hit a busy side street near St. Thomas Mount around 7:30 AM on December 3, 2025, as a fierce northeast monsoon downpour overwhelmed the area.
Murky brown water rose from ankle to knee height, sweeping debris across the uneven road. Scooters were left stranded, and a white hatchback sat mid-stream with its hazard lights flashing as the current pushed around it.
Shopfronts, including a tea stall and grocery, stood half-submerged while overloaded drains sent torrents spilling down their steps. Pedestrians in raincoats waded through the fast-moving flow as banyan trees shed heavy sheets of runoff overhead.
The deluge followed 50–100 mm of overnight-to-morning rainfall that flooded low-lying streets across Chennai, reigniting frustration over chronic waterlogging. The original X post, labeled “Near St Thomas Mount”.
