Fallen Asleep Driver Hits 13-Year-Old Cyclist in China

Yudu County, Jiangxi – On February 1, 2025, a 13-year-old boy was struck by a car while cycling. The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. on a village road in Duanwu Township.

The driver, Hu, collided head-on with the boy, Xiao Xie, who was riding his bicycle against traffic. The impact sent Xiao Xie and his bike flying. He landed hard but fortunately suffered no life-threatening injuries.

Hu told police he felt drowsy while driving. He tried to push through but fell asleep at the wheel. The crash jolted him awake.

Police determined Hu was fatigued, and Xiao Xie was cycling on the wrong side. Both were equally at fault for the accident.

Authorities issued a warning as spring brings warm, sleepy weather. Drivers should rest well and stay alert. Parents must teach kids traffic rules, especially those over 12, the legal age to cycle on roads.

They urged cyclists to ride on the right, follow signals, and avoid racing cars.
