New York, New York – An Extinction Rebellion protester sprayed “USA” in removable chalk on a plaque at Trump Tower that honors the 45th U.S. President, Donald Trump.
The act was meant as a plea for the country to overcome what the protester called failing government institutions responsible for climate collapse.
“I did this because I am an American. It is my duty to stand up for my country, and my Earth, when a government becomes destructive of our right to Life,” said the protester.
He criticized Trump and corporate interests that support both major political parties, saying all are complicit in climate inaction. “Switching to blue is not the solve. Kamala Harris’ climate platform was fracked gas, much deadlier than regular,” he added.
The protest highlighted decades of government inaction that the protester says led to a global climate catastrophe. He warned of worsening weather and natural disasters threatening lives and property.
The protester wore a shirt that read “Join, or Die,” referencing a phrase from the American Revolution. He said it was a call for unity against tyranny and a demand for new systems to repair the country’s damage.
