Monroe, Utah – A massive smoke cloud rose over Sevier County as the Monroe Fire prompted a highway closure during active suppression efforts.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that SR 24 is closed between SR 62 and Highway 119. The shutdown is due to fire crews working directly on the highway.

Footage from the scene shows thick smoke engulfing the area while emergency teams continue efforts to control the blaze. No estimate has been given for reopening the roadway.

Authorities are urging drivers to stay clear of the area until further notice.
