Carsoli, Italy – Vigili del Fuoco rescue teams carried out a high-altitude air operation to save an elderly man lost in the woods.

The dramatic rescue took place at 1,000 meters above sea level in the mountainous area of L’Aquilano.

Elisoccorritori, or helicopter rescuers, located the man during a search operation.

He had become disoriented in the dense forest near Carsoli.

The rescue team successfully retrieved him using a winch and brought him safely aboard the Drago 156 helicopter.

The man was flown to safety after the complex maneuver was completed.
