Dashcam Captures Driver Crashing Into Police Cruiser at Red Light in Ohio

Chester Township, OH – A dramatic crash involving a police cruiser was caught on dashcam, prompting a local police chief to urge drivers to stay focused on the road.

“These are preventable accidents,” said Chief Craig Young with Chester Township Police Department.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday as the cruiser traveled westbound on Wilson Mills Road.

In the video, the officer had a green light when a red vehicle suddenly smashed into the cruiser, filling the screen with the airbag.

The chief explained that the driver was heading northbound on Caves Road, ran a red light, and hit the cruiser at full speed.

Both vehicles suffered major damage, and everyone involved was taken to HillcrestHospital for evaluation. They were treated and released.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating, and citations are expected to be issued.

The cruiser was totaled, with replacement costs estimated between $42,000 and $50,000, plus $15,000 to $20,000 for the equipment inside.

Chief Young said he’s relieved everyone is safe but stressed the need for drivers to remain vigilant.
