Cop Points Gun At Man Pumping Gas After Mistaking Nozzle For Weapon

Leon County, Florida – A viral body camera video shows a Leon County sheriff’s cop drawing his firearm on a man at a Circle K, mistaking a gas nozzle for a gun.

The footage, obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat through a public records request, shows the cop arriving at the gas station on August 7. He exits his SUV, points his gun at the man, and orders him to show his hands. The man complies and explains he is filling gas cans.

The cop demonstrates how the man was holding the nozzle in a way that appeared like a pistol. The man clarifies that he was waving to get the cashier’s attention to activate the pump. The cop notes that it looked different from the road and requests the man’s driver’s license.

As the cop checks the ID, the man loudly informs other customers about the incident and warns of a potential lawsuit. He accuses the cop of profiling, while the cop defends his actions, insisting the nozzle appeared to be a gun and that he did not notice the cord.

Toward the end of the 10-minute video, the cop speaks with a Circle K cashier who confirms the man and his wife visit the station daily and are respectful. The cop explains he was only ensuring there was no threat. The man refuses to engage further, insisting he posed no danger.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed awareness of the video, emphasizing that no one was injured and that incidents like this are reviewed for potential training or further action. The location of the Circle K has not been released, and an official incident report is still pending.
