Coast Guard and Locals Save Overdue Boater Near Barnegat Bay

Barnegat Inlet, New Jersey – A 72-year-old fisherman was rescued on April 10, 2025, near Barnegat Bay. The Coast Guard, local law enforcement, and commercial salvage crews worked together to save him.

The man’s daughter reported him overdue from a clamming trip. This prompted a swift response from the Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City. They deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the area.

The fisherman was found clinging to an aid to navigation dayboard. He showed signs of hypothermia. The helicopter crew hoisted him from a commercial salvage boat in Oyster Creek Channel.

The coordinated effort ensured the man’s safe rescue. He was then transferred for medical attention. The operation highlighted the importance of teamwork in maritime emergencies.
