Coast Guard Airlifts Man With Chest Pains From Oil Rig Off Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, California – A dramatic rescue unfolded offshore Friday as the U.S. Coast Guard airlifted a man from an oil platform located about 35 miles from the coast.

The emergency began when Coast Guard District 11 watchstanders received a distress call from the rig. A crew member was suffering from severe chest pains and required immediate medical attention.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Ventura was dispatched to the scene. The team successfully completed the medevac and transported the man to safety for further treatment.
